Here are a few things you should know about briquettes, one of the staples of an Irish fire.
The difference between briquettes and turf is that briquettes are made from milled peat which has been mechanically dried and pressed under high pressure in a factory setting to create the shape. Turf is a peat which has been extracted from the peat bog by machine cut into rectangular shapes and then air dried for the summer.
Briquettes are a solid fuel made from 100% natural ingredients.
There are 20-24 individual briquettes in a bale and on average a bale weighs 12.5kg.
A typical charge of briquettes, 6 to 8, will deliver three hours of burning time.
They may be burned in a stove or in an open fire and you can use fire lighters or kindling to start your fire.
